History - The Federation of Australia
The idea that the six Australian colonies ought to create some form of national government had existed since the 1850s. By the 1880s colonial leaders were becoming concerned about matters such as defence and immigration, which affected the whole continent.
Your task is to create a weebly website that is able to explain each of these ideas below, in depth and in your own words. Use a range of media to get your ideas across.
*Inquiry Questions:
*List some key words and phrases (such as colonies, key figures, significant dates/events, government, constitution, ‘Father of Federation’, Queen Victoria, Commonwealth, courts/voting, Indigenous rights, Westminster system, democracy, White Australia policy, suffragettes, citizenship) and explain their significance to Australian Federation.
*Make a T chart, 'Before and After Federation' that demonstrates your knowledge of what life was life before and after Federation. Useful information can be found here. You might also want to search Google images for pictures of life before and after Federation (note the years when searching).
*Sequence historical events on a timeline to illustrate significant events that led to Federation.
*Discovering democracy: Australia celebrates Federation. Use a map of Australia to find out what was happening and how people around the nation celebrated Federation on 1 January 1901. View images of the town and read accounts of the celebrations as Australia officially became one nation. Write an account for a newspaper comparing and contrasting the nature of the celebrations. Click here to be redirected to the site, where you will need to put in your Education Department username and password to access this (we have recently given these to you).
*Watch the video in this link and answer the following questions in full, on your website:
*Please check back here next week for your next set of tasks to complete on Federation.
