Homework Expectations Term One
Each night, your child is expected to read for at least 20 minutes. It is great to ask your child questions about what they are reading, which involves making predictions, making links to events that have happened in their own lives and character relationships in their books. If you would like more information on things that you could ask your child while reading, please let me know. Please write the name of the book (this should be a chapter book) and the pages read each night. Please sign your child’s diary each week (there is a section for this) and I will check these on Fridays.
In addition to this, your child should be practising one times table fact each week. This is as simple as 8 x 8 = 64. I feel that if they practise this until they get it off by heart, they will always remember it from then on.
From week six (not next week as we have our assembly then), I will also be sending home a grammar worksheet that is to be completed each week. This will be sent home on the Monday and is to be returned on the Friday.
As your child moves between the senior block and many different teachers, we assign different homework tasks for them as we go. This, as well as other important information, will be written in their diary each night and it is expected that you will check these regularly to be aware of what homework has been set.
